AP Calculus in 9th Grade
Virtually all competitive students take the AP Calculus exam in 11th or 12th grade. Almost none take it in 9th grade. That means that taking the AP Calculus exam in 9th grade will help you stand out from your peers, get into an Ivy League college or combined medical program, and reach levels of math education that few people know about.
The Well Kept Secret About AP Exams
The big secret about AP exams is that you can take the AP exam without taking an AP course at school. You don’t need to take an AP calculus course at school at all; you can just sign up for the AP Calc exam. You don’t need anyone’s permission.
At Vohra Method, we take advantage of that with our outside-of-school AP Exam courses. Our courses are far more rigorous than AP courses at school, and are open to all students, including younger students.
We offer both group classes and private tutoring in AP Calculus BC, which is the most advanced AP Calculus exam.
What About Prerequisites?
AP Calculus requires mastery of algebra and trigonometry. If you don’t already have those skills, that’s no problem! We have accelerated programs in algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. Most of our incoming calculus students have not yet taken trigonometry, and it’s included as a module within our calculus program.
But ultimately, calculus is a separate subject with its own unique way of thinking about math. Mastery of algebra is important, but most other prerequisites are less important than people think. For example, you will never need to do a geometry proof as part of a calculus question. Euclidean geometry is not a prerequisite for calculus at all.
What do I do in school if I finish calculus in 9th grade?
Most students do advanced courses or independent study through local universities or online courses through bigger universities. This obviously looks amazing on a college application.
Will I Get School Credit?
At most high schools, you’ll get placement, which means you’ll just go into higher level courses. However, you will still usually need to take 3 years of high school math to graduate. College courses can usually be substituted for high school courses.
What Are The Steps?
Do the algebra diagnostic to make sure your algebra skills are up to par.
If they are not, we work on those skills with you until you are 100% ready. That process takes our students anywhere from 2 months to a year, depending on their current level of algebra proficiency.Do Vohra Method calculus training in our group classes or in tutoring.
Take the CLEP exam in calculus as a warmup for the AP exam.
The CLEP exam is developed by the College Board (the same company that makes the AP Calculus Exam). It is slightly easier than the AP exam.Take the AP Calculus BC exam at the end of 9th grade.
Algebra in 5th Grade
At Vohra Method, we’ve developed a rigorous, intensive algebra I and II program for fifth graders. This is a great stepping stone for our Calculus in 9th Grade program, as well as a generally great way to make sure that a student has amazing fundamentals.
AP Integrated Humanities in 9th-11th grade
You already know that you can take AP Exams without taking a class at school. With AP Integrated Humanities, we take it one step further.
All eight AP English and History exams are 95% reading comprehension. Learning to read challenging, primary source documents is the only way to dominate those exams. Learning that level of reading will prepare you for all 8 AP Exams at once!
Vohra Method’s AP Integrated Humanities program trains students to take all eight AP History and English exams. At Vohra, you can conquer 8 exams with one course.
SAT/PSAT in 6th-9th Grade
Whether you’re applying to a competitive summer program, or just want to build your math, reading, and grammar skills, Vohra Method’s SAT training program for 6th-9th graders can take your skills to the next level. We offer both rigorous tutoring programs and elite group classes.
AP Biology in 8th-10th Grade
