Medical School Essays

Vohra Method’s ruthless approach to medical school essays has helped students get into the most competitive medical schools in the country. Our students’ essays eclipse the cookie-cutter essays our competitors produce, and give them every possible advantage for getting in.

If you would like to work with Vohra Method on your medical school essays, we recommend that you start at least 9 months in advance of the date you plan to submit your primary applications. We absolutely require that you start at least 6 months in advance.

During our process, we will:

  1. Build up the writing and persuasion skills you will need for your essays.

  2. Teach you how to write your primary essays.

  3. Teach you how to write your secondary essays.

Unlike most of our competitors, we don’t write your essays for you. In addition to the obvious moral issues, those firms tend to produce near-identical, cookie cutter essays based on the most simplistic, outdated methods imaginable.

We also know that the essay skills you’ll develop will also form the foundation for your interviewing skills. An interview is like writing an essay in real time. At Vohra Method, you will first learn to write essays, and then use those skills to dominate the interviews. Your competitors who have someone else write the essays for them will never learn either skill.

Q: Don’t I have to wait for the application questions to be released?
A: No. First, at most medical schools, the questions are the same every year. Second, the skill development takes several months, and that skill development is always the same. This isn’t about writing a particular essay, but rather about learning how to write many essays.

In other words, you don’t need a fish. You need to learn to fish.

Q: Shouldn’t I wait for my secondaries?
A: Absolutely not! If you do that, you may need to write 20-40 essays in a single week! Your primary and secondary essays should be ready to go well in advance of the deadline.

Just as the primary essays are the same every year, the secondary essays are almost always the same every year.

In fact, most schools ask pretty similar questions on the secondary application.

Q: How much does this cost?
A: This varies hugely, based on your current experience and skill level. The hourly rate is $300/hr with Arvin Vohra, and $200/hour with our other elite essay tutors. You can also do many parts of the process in our group classes, which are $30/hr.

Q: How long does it take?
A: The total time varies dramatically. If you are a prolific fiction writer, this will go much faster than if the last thing you wrote was a lab report. Even 100% factually true medical school essays (which are rare) still use techniques of fiction to engage and electrify the readers.

What is the Skill Like?

You’ve probably read brilliant college essays about something as minor as tying your shoes, and really boring and tedious essays about winning a national debate competition or science fair. Those brilliant essays about minor topics aren’t just lucky. They are demonstrations of a well developed set of thinking and writing skills.

With our training program, you’ll learn how to write those casually ingenious essays on any topic - major or minor. If you develop the college essay skill, you can write a great essay about wrapping gifts, seeing a zebra, taking a nap, sitting on a couch, fighting with a sibling, building a robot, pens, dogs, tires, Socrates, colors, dreams, the ocean - literally any topic will work. Just as you can probably solve any two step linear equation on earth pretty easily, you will be able to write a college essay on any topic just as easily.

On the other hand, if you haven’t developed that skill, you probably can’t write a great essay on any topic! You could write an essay about the time you won the Nobel Prize, and it won’t be powerful enough.

As you master these skills, you’ll realize what all admissions officers and college strategists know: the topic doesn’t really matter. A great essay does not come from some particular topic. It comes from clever execution of any topic. To quote Ella Fitzgerald: It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.

The Vohra Pledge

We will do everything we can to help you develop the skills you need to write your medical school essays. We’re quite good at it - most of our students get into their first choice colleges.

However, we will never write your essays for you.

If you’ve worked with a writing tutor before, there’s a good chance that you’ve figured out a trick: if you stall until the last minute and act helpless, the tutor will basically write the paper for you. Many math and science tutors do the same.

We don’t.

If your essay isn’t ready by the deadline, you’ll just miss the deadline. No matter what the deadline is, there is always another year behind it when you can apply. However, even if 10 years go by, we won’t write your essay for you. If you want to learn the skill that will help you produce world class essays and dominate your interviews, we’re the best place anywhere for that.

Fair warning: the essays you write with the skills you develop at Vohra will be much, much better than any essay written by a college essay writing service.

Stand out. Get in.
