Curriculum Design & Teacher Training

Help 100% Of Your Students Master the Subject

8th grade teacher training.jpg

At Vohra Method, we know you want your students to achieve more, build confidence, and master the subject. The problem is that most curricula don’t reliably achieve that. Even in elite private schools, juniors and seniors often have major conceptual gaps that hurt their test scores, confidence, and love of the subject.

Our curriculum engineering team can help reduce student frustration and increase achievement.

We build both paper-based and digital curricula. We make sure that the curricula we build fit in well with your other programs and your educational culture. Our curricula are not the cut and paste jobs that are far too common in curriculum design, nor are they created from the imagination of graduate students with zero teaching experience.

Our curriculum engineering team consists of on-the-ground educators with years of individual education and group education experience with students all over the country. We’re aware of issues endemic in American education generally, and are constantly pinpointing and correcting for issues in the curricula of individual schools or other educational programs.

We discuss our initial plan with teachers, students, parents, and administrators to make sure we have significant buy-in.

  3. Create.

We build the curriculum, testing components as we go.

  4. Test.

We test, refine, and finalize the curriculum.

  5. Support.

    We provide ongoing support.

Teacher Training in Individualized Education

Wash DC training seminar1.jpg

In 2008, we created our first individualized group class. We’d done it. We’d finally created a program that allowed rigorous, Socratic, individualized education in a group setting. We’d achieved our dream...or so we thought.

In reality, we’d just started. Years of refinement, multiple redesigns, digitization of the paper curricula, more redesigns, and multiple platform changes later, we have the experience to help you create or improve an individualized education program in a group setting.

Individual training in a group setting poses very different challenges than the traditional methods of teaching all students the same topic at the same time. But in the competitive world of education, students and parents are coming to expect more and more individualization in group settings. One size fits nobody education is already obsolete, and it is becoming less and less tolerated.

Our teacher training programs show teachers how to use and develop individualized, nonlinear curricula. Most of our trainees have never worked with individualized curricula before, and we adjust our program based on experience level.

Nonlinear, individualized group classes are still somewhat uncommon, but are in many ways intuitive. Teachers, especially experienced ones, can generally start finding their own ways to develop and integrate nonlinear, individualized elements into their own programs after just one or two training sessions. Of course, the quality of those elements tends to improve with experience, and we offer consulting services as needed to help teachers work on individual parts of nonlinear curricula or their implementation.

Vohra Method’s Teacher Training programs start as low as $5000, and can be a great way to make your next professional day inspiring and unforgettable.

(Note that the programs are for individualized education in a group setting; if you’re looking for private tutor training, please go here:)

Curriculum Design Pricing

Cost varies widely depending on the scope of the program. We will give you an exact quote up front after evaluating all aspects of the project, and you will never pay one cent more than the initial quote. Large projects are divided into multiple milestones.

Here are a few examples of paper based curricula (this is not a comprehensive list, just a rough idea). These costs include evaluation and interviews, planning, content creation, testing, and ongoing support. Digital curricula generally cost about 60% more than paper-based curricula.

  • Creation of an advanced SAT Math program and integration into a high school math program to boost average SAT Math scores by 100+ points: $130,000

  • Creation of a grammar program and integration into a high school English program to boost average SAT Grammar scores by 100+ points: $110,000

  • Complete redesign of a high school math program, single track: $250,000

  • Complete redesign of a high school math program, three tracks: $450,000

  • Creation of a multi-AP Humanities course (for example, a year long course that prepares students for multiple English and History AP Exams, while rigorously teaching the subjects): $550,000.

  • Creation of a Rapid Analytical Reading program, along with adding the required grammar components to English classes in earlier years (Rapid Analytical Reading is a grammar-based approach to speed reading that allows people to rapidly read complex texts): $250,000.

Our curricula will provide a level of individualization and student performance that others simply cannot match.

We don’t charge extra based on your number of students, your zip code, or your currency. Teacher training costs do increase somewhat with more teachers, but not linearly. For example, doubling the number of teachers will not double your training costs; it will increase training costs by around 20%.

Note: while we certainly prepare students for success on standardized tests, we do not “teach to the test”, in that we don’t dumb down programs with methods like “plug-in”, “backsolve”, or the other idiocies that make great teachers hate programs like Princeton Review. Instead, our SAT curricula teach direct algebraic solutions, real analytical reading, and a rigorous understanding of grammar. Our AP Humanities curricula teach rigorous reading and analysis of primary source documents.

Easier Memorization With the Synapse Algorithm

synapse1024-1.png

For some subtopics, memorization is necessary...and the more necessary it is, the more students hate it. At Vohra Method, we use our Synapse algorithm to make it easier. We use it in our Vocabulary Synapse program, our Biology Synapse Program, and various smaller topics.

For example, every math teacher knows that kids struggle with percent more and percent less, and every chemistry teacher knows that kids love forgetting polyatomic ions, and you don’t even need to ask precalculus teachers about the unit circle memorization battle. At Vohra Method, we use the Synapse Algorithm to teach all those and more. It’s a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack an egg, but we love overbuilding our curricula!

Synapse works by adjusting repetition intervals based on how often a student misses a question. A question, concept, or vocab word that a student misses frequently is repeated at very short intervals. As the student starts to get it right, the concept is repeated at greater intervals, allowing it to move into the student’s long term memory.

The Synapse Algorithm can be adapted to your needs and you preferred platform. In the past, we’ve used it within iPhone apps, Android apps, Windows apps, and Slack Integrations.

Ask your teachers what their students are struggling to memorize. Then ask how much better students would perform if their memorization of that topic doubled or tripled. Your teachers can confirm how much better their teaching experiences would be with such increased memorization.

We can make the memorization battle a thing of the past. Synapse can help students permanently memorize critical information and succeed.

Advantages for Students:

  • Easier memorization with lower concentration

  • Easier mastery of the material that depends on that memorization

Advantages for Teachers:

  • Easy to verify completion by checking student scores at the end of a Synapse session

  • The algorithm adjusts to even the most recalcitrant students.

  • All you have to do is tell the student the target score, and then wait until the student reaches that score.

Your first Synapse, with your branding, on your platform is $150,000.
Each additional one is only $10,000.

Calculus in 9th Grade: The Vohra Method Accelerated Math Curriculum

AdobeStock_254378868.jpeg

Dominance in a global economy comes from a world class math education. Vohra Method’s Accelerated Math Curriculum teaches BC calculus by 9th grade.

We achieve this by focusing on skill mastery instead of task completion. The program continually, persistently evaluates and builds core skills, rebuilding as needed. Through targeted repetition, students completely master core skills like 2 step equations, multiplying monomials, combining like terms, and factoring. Forgetting is essentially impossible, as every time a student forgets a concept, the student repeats the relevant modules. Gradually, students add new skills to their arsenal of permanently mastered concepts. Their math skills are rugged, overbuilt, and versatile.

Every math teacher knows that honors algebra classes are usually harder than regular calculus classes. The ninth graders that spin their wheels in honors algebra classes bogged down with intentional delays have the cognitive ability to study calculus. Vohra Method’s Accelerated Math Curriculum gives them that opportunity.

A 9th grade calculus program will put your school ahead of any competitor, and give your students a dramatic advantage over their local and international competition. The Vohra Method Accelerated Math Curriculum gives you that unmatched advantage.

This is a grades 4-9 curriculum. It can be shifted back a year, moving calculus to 10th grade. While the core principles of the curriculum are universal, implementations vary widely depending on the structure of the existing educational programs.
